Debraj Sarkar

The brain is arguably the greatest amazing organ known to man. It is responsible for the thoughts that we think, emotions we feel, the movements that we make, things that we learn and things that we remember. Each second, our brains are busy assisting us in perceiving the world around us.
Many people talk about the brain, yet they are not aware as to how the human brain works. This guide explains the human brain and brain function in clear language; this guide is suitable for students, professionals, medical practitioners and those with an interest in the brain.

Basic Principles of the Human Brain

The human brain controls all bodily functions. It sends and receives signals via billions of nerve cells referred to as neurons.
The weight of an average human brain is around 1.3-1.4 kg. Despite being relatively tiny as compared to the rest of the human body, the human brain consumes lots of energy from the body’s resources.

Brain structures and their roles:

It becomes quite easy for one to comprehend how the brain function once one understands the structure of the brain. The following are three major parts of the brain that all medical students must be aware of

Cerebrum, The cerebrum is the biggest portion of the brain and is in charge of our thoughts, memory, learning and knowledge, emotion, language and physical movement, and the ability to translate what we learn and understand with our senses.

Cerebellum, The cerebellum is at the back portion of the brain and works to make our body’s muscle movements more balanced, coordinate them together, and control our posture. It also aids us in learning how to move with precision.

Heart rate, breathing rate, blood pressure and digestion are controlled from the brain stem. Also the autonomic reflexes like swallowing, sneezing and coughing are controlled from the brainstem which also functions as a relay station to the brain.

Changes that Occur in Human Brain Throughout Human Life Span

The human brain changes throughout life. It grows and adapts based on experiences. The brain function has lot of potential to improve our body .
It means the brain can do new connections and learn new things.

Aging and Human Brain

With aging, some functions become slower but the human brain function stays active with engagement in different brain activities.

High-Level Human Brain Concepts Our brain has not yet been fully understood. Researchers still learn a lot about how the brain is functioning.

How the Human Brain Works

The brain and artificial intelligence

Scientists make a number of comparisons between the brain and artificial intelligence. Even though AI is capable of learning, it is no way as flexible as our brain.

Brain comprehends emotion, creativity and social interactions.

The human mind and consciousness

Consciousness is literally the state of awareness of oneself and one’s surrounding.

It is the part of yourself that creates the thoughts and experiences you have in your brain. How the brain is doing this is one of science’s most profound enigmas.

Learning and adaptation in the brain

When people learn something new, it is physically  New learning pathways form for each experience and this enhances ones learning of new things.

Final thought the Importance of the Brain

The brain produces all your thinking, feeling, learning, memory, and movement. Once you understand how your brain works, you realize just what a phenomenal piece of machinery your head houses. With each scientific discovery about the workings of the brain we learn more about the workings of ourselves and about our capacity. The next time you figure out a riddle, remember a favorite song, or get an emotion- the next time you do these thing consider your remarkable brain doing all of its work.
